I spent the last two days working with students at the College of the Ozarks in Branson, MO. This was my first time in this scenic part of the country, and I had a wonderful time during both the lecture and masterclass portions of my visit. It was also very meaningful to catch up with my friend Luke Carlson, a great composer who’s leading the composition program there and was kind enough to host me and organize these events. Until next time!
Portrait Concert in Seoul
I’m pleased to announce a portrait concert of my music in Seoul this December! The concert will feature violinist Euna Kim and pianist Eunmi Ko and will be held on December 16 at MUSICSPACE GF 중력장. The program will include five works, as follows:
Rise, for violin and piano (2003)
immaus, for solo violin (2004)
2 Selfies, for solo piano (2025, premiere)
Fragile Remembrance, for solo violin (2023)
Inner Truth, for solo piano (2018)
With works that span twenty-two years, this should give a good overview of how my music has developed. I’m so pleased to be working Euna and Eunmi again, though for the first time together. Euna has performed my work as a member of Hong Kong New Music Ensemble (including my recent Neon Sounds premiere). Eunmi has played my piano work Inner Truth all around the world. We met most recently on her home turf at CAMP in 2023. I’m glad to be bringing them together in one of my favorite cities!

Neon Sounds at CMS National
I had a wonderful time at the College Music Society’s National Conference in Spokane, WA. At the conference, I gave a presentation on my composition, Neon Sounds, and the broader context of this project, which was supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and premiered by Hong Kong New Music Ensemble and Toolbox Percussion at the Hong Kong Arts Centre in March 2024. I also enjoyed hearing a number of new music performances by composers from around the world and several fascinating paper presentations. CMS is always a good place to connect with colleagues, especially across disciplines. In addition to the conference activities, I found Spokane to be a lovely town with excellent food and (most important) wine.
